Basic Bath Bombs (Amanda)

Learn to make bath bombs (aka bath fizzies!). Bath bombs are tightly packed packages of dry ingredients that effervesce when dropped into your bath water. They fizz, color your water, swirl and let off aroma as you soak in the tub. Bath bombs are fun at any age!

Bath bombs can be finicky. Warts, breaking, cracking, powdery bombs…so many things can go wrong! In this class, I’ll teach all about formulating and changing up ingredients, so you make bombs that are perfect for your environment. We’ll go over ingredients, formulas, and methods for making a variety of bath fizzies.

In this class, you’ll learn the following:

  • All about ingredients and equipment.
  • Molding techniques.
  • Coloring techniques.
  • Design techniques including simple swirling, layering, and embeds.
  • How to make a bomb that floats.
  • How to formulate a recipe based on where you live (humid/dry).

During the live video, we’ll make a couple of batches so you can see Amanda’s exact process! We’ll make a simple bath bomb and then move on to more advanced techniques, such as swirling and layering.

If you’ve been curious about making bath bombs or have made them but they “bombed,” then this class is for you! You’ll be cranking out adorable bath fizzies in no time. Advanced makers will find value in the breakdown of formulations for perfecting your signature recipe.

Bubble Fondant 2.0 (Robyn)

In our original Bootcamp we used a recipe called Bubble Fondant, and it was mediocre at best. Don’t get us wrong, it was a fine little recipe, but over the last 4 years we have slowly built up a reputation for being a source of THE BEST recipes and formulations. And OG Bubble Fondant just didn’t pass muster.

That’s why we are thrilled to present Bubble Fondant 2.0! Prototypes of this recipe were tested via our Patreon for over a year, and we have been able to create a product that is BRAND NEW to the industry.

Bubble Fondant 2.0 was developed to be just like Cake Fondant or even air dry clay. It is easy to roll, mold, cut, press, and shape into even the most minute and delicate details. When left exposed to air, Bubble Fondant 2.0 will dry hard within 24-48 hours (depending on your humidity). It is easy to affix to bath bombs and STAYS glued to them without the need for cocoa butter drizzle or bubble bar frosting.

Bubble Fondant 2.0 can also stand on its own as a bubble bar if need be, but we think its best use is to create amazing details for bath bombs that have never before been accessible.

In this class you’ll learn:

  • All about ingredients and equipment for this technique
  • Different ways to mold and use Bubble Fondant
  • Coloring with Lakes, Dyes and Micas – pros and cons!
  • Making substitutions in your recipe, and accounting for climate
  • Troubleshooting and Pro tips for beautiful bars
  • Packaging suggestions for on-point presentation

Whether you’re just beginning your journey into all things bubbly, or you’re a seasoned pro, there’s something for everyone to learn with this exciting new type of bubble bath!

Rolling Bubble Bars (Amanda)

In this class you’ll learn to make whimsical rolled bubble bars. Bubble bars, or solid bubble bath, is a hard and solid piece of dry bubble bath. You hold it under running water and it fills your bath with bubbles.

You have to have the perfect consistency when making rolled bubble bars to avoid cracking or crumbling bars. You don’t want the mixture to be too soft. I’ll teach you how to make rolled bubble bars that are easy to roll and that dry quickly and super hard, so that you can easily package for sale.

In this class you’ll learn:

  • All about ingredients and equipment.
  • How to formulate a bubble bar recipe that is easily rolled.
  • Rolling techniques.
  • Coloring techniques.
  • Troubleshooting

In class we’ll make a batch of rolled bubble bars so that you can see the easy process Amanda uses to ensure success. By the end of this session you’ll know what results to expect and be confident in your ability to achieve them!

If you’ve ever wanted to make your own adorable rolled bubble bars, but didn’t know where to start, then this class is for you. Bubble bars are really popular right now and your customers will love them.

Piping Bubble Bars (Robyn)

Piping Bubble Bars is another take on the solid bubble bath craze! Learn how to pipe Wonder Bar like a pro! Top cupcakes, pipe bubble wands…the sky’s the limit!

We will cover everything beginning to end, so even if you have never touched a piping bag, you’ll be producing perfectly piped frosting when we’re done!

In this class you’ll learn:

  • All about ingredients and equipment for successful piping.
  • How to modify and make substitutions for your perfect formula!
  • Coloring your frosting.

If the idea of piping has intimidated you, it’s time to let that go! With this step-by-step instruction, you’ll be piping up a storm in no time!

Bubble Scoops (Amanda)

Is there anything more adorable than a scoop of brightly colored bubble bath? Combine skin-loving ingredients with a fun scooped design and you’ll have a product that your customers will go crazy over. This type of bubble bar is held or crumbled under running water and fills your tub with bubbles.

In this class you’ll learn:

  • All about ingredients and equipment.
  • How to modify Wonder Bar to be scoopable.
  • Rolling techniques.
  • Coloring techniques.

During the live class we’ll make two batches of bubbles scoops; an easy single colored scoop to get you warmed up and a fun multi-colored design to challenge and inspire you!  You’ll love how satisfying it is to scoop these bath treats when you finally get going!

Your customers will LOVE bubble scoops and be begging for more in no time flat! An easy favorite for kids and adults alike!

Decorating Bath Bombs – Drizzle, Paint and Air Brushing (Robyn)

Many people claim that their bath bomb sales are declining. If you want to stay in the game, you have to keep your products fun and innovate, and that’s where drizzling, painting and airbrushing can make all the difference!

Drizzling, or dipping bath bombs creates a smooth flawless touch while adding skin-softening oils, for a luxe experience customers crave! Hand painting bath bombs is another great way to make your bath bombs stand out, because with these, the sky’s the limit! Airbrushing may seem like an advanced technique, but with a few simple steps you’ll be amazed at how quickly you find yourself able to air brush like a pro!

In this class you’ll learn:

  • How to formulate and modify the ingredients to fit your needs.

About the instructors:

Robyn French Smith

My name is Robyn French Smith, and I own Scandalous Soap Company! I studied fine art at the University of St Thomas and the Glassell School of Art in Houston TX, and graphic design at The Art Institute of Houston. I started dabbling in DIY bath and body products over 10 years ago after moving to Alaska. While I knew how to make bath bombs for several years, I didn’t start formulating and designing my own bath fizzies until 2019 when I left my former LLC and launched my own company. Using my background in art to create beautiful and unique bath products, has been a joy! I love testing and experimenting, and I can’t wait to share what I’ve learned as we hang out on a virtual retreat. Check out my book, Bath Bomb Revolution on Amazon!
